Festa della Befana

Bring your family and learn about a cherished Italian tradition as we celebrate la Festa della Befana on January 7 at the Italian Cultural & Community Center. We’ll be paid a visit by la Befana, who will bring sweets for the children in attendance.

La Befana is an old, kind woman who flies by broomstick on the eve of Epiphany. She brings sweets and candies for children who have been good, or a lump of coal for those who have been bad. According to the legend, the three wise men asked her to come with them to bring gifts to baby Jesus. La Befana declined, saying she was too busy with her housework. When she changed her mind, she searched far and wide trying to find the wise men and the baby Jesus, but to no avail. To this day, she is still searching for the little baby, and she flies on her broomstick and brings treats to children each year on Three Kings’ Day, or Epiphany.

This is an event for kids and their families only.
