All’ICCC (At the ICCC) – November/December 2023 – Letter from Claudia Gentile Sims
Cari Amici,
HAPPY FALL Y’ALL.
There’s no good way to translate that into Italian so I’ll just say, benvenuto all’autunno. Finally, some cooler weather days lie ahead of us.
This fall marked our fourth annual fashion show and luncheon, Songs and Styles of Italy, which was a smashing success. Many kudos go to Gina Gusemano Leck, the ICCC Board’s special liaison and advisor, for helping to steer this wildly successful event along with many others who worked tirelessly: Lesha Elsenbrook and Ginger Niemann, luncheon chairs, ably assisted by Lu Catagirone, Debbie Simon, Julie Mastroianni, Franelle Rogers, Karen DeGeurin, Ellie Francisco, and of course, Roz Pactor and Steve Tyrell, our guests of honor, who brought so much “stile, elan and brio” to the event. And of course, our fantastic staff; it was a fantastic day! Mille grazie to you all.
In its own way, our ceiling work is moving along successfully, too. All the old plaster ceilings have been removed, new wiring is in place, and the sheetrock is going up in most areas this week. We’re moving along on this enormous (and unexpected, unplanned) project.
Our very important annual meeting of the general membership will be held at 7 pm on Thursday, November 9 at ICCC. We’ll have a recap of the year for you, and it will be an opportunity to meet the candidates who have thrown their hats into the ring for 3-year board positions beginning in January 2024. Thank you to nominating committee chair, Monica Ercolani, who along with her committee of Joanna Porche, Vincent Marino, and Margret Norton, vetted all applications. Nominations will be open from the floor on that night, too. We hope to see you there.
November will be a busy month as our language classes are continuing with an intermediate/advanced conversation class starting up in November. Also coming in November will be another Aperitivo toward the end of the month and in between we’ll have the Mirabilis Awards ceremony, a Mass and pasta lunch, and a lecture. Our members-only Christmas party will come in December and before you know it, the holidays will be upon us. Just in case I’m inadvertently leaving something out, please be sure to check our website for updates and find us on social media.
I look forward to seeing you around ICCC at one of our many interesting and varied offerings. If I somehow miss you, I am extending my very warmest wishes to you and yours for a very happy Thanksgiving and the merriest Christmas ever.
