The tradition that began in 2003 continues in 2012 to honor the life-long achievements of individuals of Italian descent who exemplify character, leadership, community service and most of all the Italian Spirit. The 2012 Rekindle the Flame Gala and Auction will take place on Saturday, September 8th at the Hilton Houston Post Oak.
This year the distinguished honoree is Ken Aspromonte, who exemplifies his Italian heritage through his commitment to the community both locally and nationally. Ken is a former MLB player and field manager, a member of the National Italian American Foundation (NIAF) Board of Directors serving as chair of the Foundation’s fund development committee, vice president for the southwest region, which includes our Houston area community. He was honored in 2011 when inducted into the National Italian American Sports Hall of Fame (NIASHF). In addition to his national service to his Italian-American heritage, Ken also served as a Board of Director for the Federation of Italian American Federation of Greater Houston (now known at the ICCC).
Ken’s focus as the honoree is the growth of the ICCC and his ability to reach out to those who are not familiar with what the Houston Italian-American community has to offer. He is energetic and enthusiastic to make this Gala a successful and enjoyable event.
